Music in film is just as important as music you work out to.
Imagine Glory without the soundtrack, now imagine it with a terrible scoring, where the tone is numb and directionless, like The Informant. Yes, I think that crappy music ruined an otherwise ok film.
But, for my tastes, I have always loved anything Basil Poledouris did, which is probably why I loved Red Dawn, Starship Troopers, Robocop, The Hunt For Red October, Iron Eagle (remember that?) and of course . . . Conan The Barbarian.
I had heard awhile back that NASA was using music studies to determine the optimal music to work out to, so our Olympic athletes might have a winning edge. It was during this study they discovered that Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones was a pretty terrible song to lift weights to, because it had something to do with the rythm of the beat related to the average heart beat of the athlete. I heard that a long time ago, before the Internet . . . and right now I can’t seem to find anything on it. So, take that for what it’s worth at this point.
Anyway, Fix.com asked if I would share this nifty infographic, and because I 1. Love infographics and 2. They caught me on a good day, I figured what the hell. It isn’t a film review, but I don’t mind sharing stuff like this, and again, we make our own rules at FilmGrouch.
