What’s your favorite memory from 1984?
Hot off the digital press, we can confirm that principal photography has started on Wonder Woman 1984!
Following the success of last summer’s record-breaking Wonder Woman, which took in $822 million at the worldwide box office. Wonder Woman 1984 will again be helmed by director Patty Jenkins and star Gal Gadot in the title role. Because, my God could you even imagine if they didn’t bring them both back? There’d be riots in the streets!
And, if you have been keeping up, The Cheetah will be played by comedy legend, Kristen Wiig, and somehow Chris Pine will return as Steve Trevor.
Set in 1984, this film will capitalize on the ’80s nostalgia craze that never gets old . . . well, at least not to this old timer anyway.
I am not a huge fan of the DC Universe films of late, not since Bale stopped being Batman, and we got Ben Affleck (who I think is a phenomenal director, I just can’t accept him as the caped crusader). One wonders what Batman is up to in 1984, as Wonder Woman is soaking in all the electronic funk and neon energy and dealing with The Cheetah.
Will a young Batman make an appearance? Will other famous characters have any cameos? I am excited for this sequel, even though I wasn’t as crap my pants insane about it as other critics were, the first film was my favorite DC Universe movie since Man of Steel. [Neat fact, I posted my review for that film exactly five years ago, today]
Some fun set facts:
Production will take place in Washington, D.C., Alexandria, Virginia, and in the UK, Spain and the Canary Islands.
Set to open in theaters November 1, 2019, Wonder Woman 1984 is based on the character created by William Moulton Marston, appearing in comic books published by DC Entertainment. It will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
