Time Warp Tournament
It’s astounding That’s actually the word I used to describe “Cutthroat Kitchen” last year. I was holed up in a hotel for a few days, and I discovered this ridiculous show on the Food Network. I have a passing fascination with Alton Brown, and I was intrigued to see what rigors he would be putting the contestants through. I wasn’t impressed, to be honest. There were chefs using power tools to stir food and weird props thrown in to make the challenge crazier. But, it still wasn’t cohesive enough to keep me entertained.
Time is fleeting But time is exactly what was missing from the first iteration. I am a history buff, and adding the historical element to the show is a brilliant strategy. Original series on the History Channel are killing it right now, so it’s wise of Food Network producers to tap into that energy of the ages. I decided to give this crazy cooking show another go and opted to watch the first episode themed around the 1950s.
Madness takes it toll It was funny watching the chefs dress like Marilyn and The King himself, with sabotages that the chefs can bid on to use against each other throughout the one hour show. In the 50s, my favorite sabotage was forcing one of the chefs to use only black and white ingredients. You know, because there were no color TVs back then . . . if you can imagine that!
But listen closely I had Joshua Diaz (THE FunnyVeganDaddy) make a really clever Snap-story to let you all know about this new mini-series. Here’s his story, and while you might have missed it when it was live, if you add him on Snapchat, you won’t be sorry. He is a wonderful story-teller!
Not for very much longer Running each Wednesday this June, “Cutthroat Kitchen” will run the gamut from the 50s to the 90s! The season finale pits the past winners of the 50s to 80s against each other in a winner take all melee of culinary carnage.
I’ve got to . . . keep control Of course, if you miss it when the show airs, again, every Wednesday at 9PM on the Food Network, you can use the best invention of this decade . . . On Demand to catch them all!
