Begrudingly, I decided I would go to the screening for Gulliver’s Travels just under four years ago. As always, I sauntered into the theater and sat in the press section. Tonight, I was curious, what other press might be bold enough to subject themselves to the sheer torture awaiting us? That was the night I met the man who will forever inspire me, Alyn Directs. No, wait, that isn’t his name, he’s Alyn Darnay!
Alyn Darnay is the doyen of drama and all things cinema! Turns out, neither of us needed to be masters to figure out Gulliver’s Travels sucked. But, that mutual misery sparked a great friendship that I pray will endure eternally.
Alyn invited me to the Hollywood (Florida) Film Festival to screen one of his films, and ever since he has been contributing some remarkable reviews for iRATEfilms and now FilmGrouch.
Recently Alyn was interviewed for Wire Magazine by Michael Sasser, Michael tries his best to categorize Alyn. You can’t really. Alyn Darnay is a director, he’s an actor, he’s a writer, he’s a great friend and tremendously generous soul. Primarily, Alyn is a film-maker . . . he always has been and he always will be.
Have a look at the full interview here: Wire Magazine Turning the Table – Spotlight on Alyn Darnay (Pages 10-11). Be advised, the magazine is a bit NSFWish. The article is excellent, and I was happy to see one of Alyn’s favorite guilty pleasures is one of my favorite films. Of course, it’s a Kubrick flick.
It’s no understatement to say this, count yourself blessed if you ever meet Alyn. I certainly do!
