Over two years ago now, Henry Hubbard (H-Man) has been gone. He was the backbone that kept iRateFilms, now FilmGrouch.com running.
But before he started writing for me, he was my college buddy.
Back in 2009, when I reached out to him to write for the site, it had been five years since we graduated from Flagler College together. I knew Henry had a firm grasp on films, because he majored in the subject.
In fact, I was in his senior final, a short film called “Mother’s Room” that was heavily influenced by both of Henry’s Gods of cinema, David Lynch and Alfred Hitchcock.
I remember asking him for a copy in 2009, but he said that it was lost forever for reasons that I can’t recall now.
So, I was beyond shocked when I got a Facebook message from a complete stranger named Shaun Bennett last night that said, “Greetings. I just found a DVD copy of a short film called “Mother’s Room” that my friend Henry Hubbard put together years ago. I did a film score for the project. Your name is also in the credits.”
I was just settling in to go to sleep when I read those words, and it was like Henry himself was reaching out with a gift from the other side.
After I read that text, I began a long dialog to figure out if we could somehow share this lost little artifact from Henry’s past with the world.
So, I present to you, “Mother’s Room” a short film by one of the best people I ever had the pleasure to know in my life, Henry (H-Man) Hubbard!
And, remember back when I reviewed Roulette and said I worked with Ali Lukowski in a college film? Well, this was the film. Hope you enjoy.
