Horror movies are interesting, because much like comedies, they are completely subjective. I don’t do so well with dolls, like Annabelle, whereas H-Man seems to not be the slightest bit scared of them. He got scared by The Conjuring, and I really didn’t, because it just didn’t surprise me much. The lady who plays the crazy mom, well, she’s always a crazy, so . . . spoiler alert, I wasn’t shocked she ended up going psycho.
That is the way The Blair Witch Project is. I have noticed, people either find it very scary, or they find it annoying and bad. For my part, I liked it so much, I reached out to the director on Facebook, and I was thrilled when he accepted my friend request. I think it is one of the scarier films ever made, mainly because I have an overactive imagination. Eduardo Sanchez allows the audience’s imagination to create the real terror. It’s like reading a book, your imagination creates the visual scenery.
So, if you are a pretty messed up individual, The Blair Witch Project is going to stick with you a long time. It got me so bad, because I was overseas when it came out, and I didn’t know it was a fictional account, at first glance. It stuck with me so long, I thought there was a scene where the witch was actually seen . . . and it turns out that scene never happened! I imagined the whole thing in my head, simply from the description of the fur covered witch. Witches and dolls have always gotten to me more than any other “monster” out of Hollywood.
