Lizzie the lesbian?
Back when the patriarchy was strong, we kept all you spinsters and Old Maids where you belonged, at home, raising kids, baking things, and getting hitched. But some crazy woman decided to take an ax and slaughter her father and step-mother while they slept. Now, women can vote, drive cars, write articles, be producers, directors, CEOs, and lead armies. Sheesh, way to go Mr. Borden, you couldn’t install a toilet and let Lizzie kiss girls occasionally? Dweeb!
Ah yes, poor dear Lizzie. It sucked to be a 19th Century woman in New England, living in an affluent neighborhood surrounded by niceties and servants. It was ever so dreadful. All poor Lizzie could do was paint and read, such a miserable life.
Sexually repressed Lizzie basically falls for Ms. Flat Affect herself, Kristen Stewart and the chemistry is . . . not too shabby actually, from the looks of the trailer.
Apparently Chloe Sevigny grew up in New England and has been obsessed with Lizzie Borden since she was a kid. She put a lot of herself into this project.
I admit I have always had a strange fascination with this case. I watched that decent mini-series with Christina Ricci a few years back and it aroused my growing interest in this case.
The most fascinating thing to me is that the circumstantial evidence was everywhere, and forensic science came into the mainstream because of this case. Not to spoil anything that the synopsis doesn’t already give away below, but the mean old male only jury acquitted her of the charges. I guess you could say they buried the patriarchal hatchet?

Story: In 1892, Lizzie Borden, a seemingly proper young lady from an upstanding Massachusetts family, was accused of brutally murdering her father and stepmother. Although she was tried and acquitted by an all-male jury, no other suspect was ever located. More than a century later, the crime continues to fascinate, puzzle and repulse. Did Lizzie really kill her parents? If so, what drove her to commit such an unthinkable act? And if she didn’t, who did?
