The good news, director Ridley Scott is returning with a new science fiction adventure. The bad news, it’s not Prometheus 2. Instead, he brings us The Martian, a survival story about an astronaut (Matt Damon) who becomes marooned on the Angry Red Planet, and must figure out a way to stay alive long enough for a rescue team to arrive. Hmm… Matt Damon stranded on a planet awaiting rescue… why does that sound so familiar?
Anyway, the first global trailer for The Martian has landed, and damn does it look epic, if I do say so myself (and I wouldn’t say it if I didn’t mean it). From Gravity to Interstellar, space survival seems to be all the rage these days, and while we’ll have to wait until November to see how The Martian stands up alongside those modern classics, the trailer is a very promising sign of things to come.
Arriving via Twentieth Century Fox, The Martian is based on a novel by Andy Weir, and co-stars Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Jeff Daniels, Michael Peña, Kate Mara, Sean Bean, Sebastian Stan, Aksel Hennie and Chiwetel Ejiofor.
