I am a fan of Emilia Clarke, duh, she was the best character in Game of Thrones – spoiler alert (really stop reading this sentence if you haven’t seen Game of Thrones), that’s why they killed her and had her whisked off to the sunset by a dragon. They always kill the ones I love.
Anyway, recently I found out she has suffered from a medical condition and that character Daenerys, that strong powerful warrior queen, kept her alive. So, she dedicated almost a decade of her life to this show, and yes, she’s been typecast now. She will forever be my queen.
So, when I saw she was going to be in this goofy, light-hearted Christmas movie I was all like, no thanks. I want to see her dark and gritty, stacking bodies, and making grown men weep. But, then I watched the trailer.
Apparently this was written by Emma Thompson, whom we all love around here. And there’s more to this movie than some Hallmark special. It’s got real gravitas, and the characters look like people I actually want to know more about.
From the first viewing, though, I must admit the jokes seem a bit lame, and I am not sure I will gel with them overall. But, the story has got me interested, and dare I say, hopefully they haven’t revealed everything in the trailer.
I like all the actors in this, and Feig is a talented Director . . . saving that stupidly awful Ghostbusters reboot, of course. So, yea, I am looking forward to watching this one.
Tell me your thoughts in the comments below. Think this is a good choice for Clarke following Game of Thrones?
Here’s all the official stuff:
Emilia Clarke (HBO’s Game of Thrones), Henry Golding (A Simple Favor, Crazy Rich Asians), Michelle Yeoh and Emma Thompson star for director Paul Feig (A Simple Favor, Spy, Bridesmaids) in Last Christmas, a romantic comedy inspired by a George Michael beat, from a screenplay by Academy Award® winner Thompson (Sense and Sensibility, Bridget Jones’s Baby) and playwright Bryony Kimmings.
Kate (Emilia Clarke) harumphs around London, a bundle of bad decisions accompanied by the jangle of bells on her shoes, another irritating consequence from her job as an elf in a year-round Christmas shop. Tom (Henry Golding) seems too good to be true when he walks into her life and starts to see through so many of Kate’s barriers. As London transforms into the most wonderful time of the year, nothing should work for these two. But sometimes, you gotta let the snow fall where it may, you gotta listen to your heart … and you gotta have faith.
Last Christmas features the music of George Michael, including the bittersweet holiday classic of the film’s title. The film will also premiere brand new unreleased material by the legendary Grammy-winning artist, who sold more than 115 million albums and recorded 10 No. 1 singles over the course of his iconic career.
The film is produced by BAFTA winner David Livingstone for Calamity Films, by Emma Thompson, and by Paul Feig and Jessie Henderson for Feigco Entertainment. The film is executive produced by Sarah Bradshaw.
