I have seen some early reviews that absolutely blasted this. But really, what are people expecting? I just want to be entertained, and I would like if the story continued from the previous movie. I thought the first one was better, but I still enjoyed this one.
Aristotle Papadopolous (Antonio Banderas) is a very bad man who wants to take over the world . . . or destroy it, it’s not really important. Meanwhile, Michael Bryce (Ryan Reynolds) is an unlicensed bodyguard on sabbatical. He recently graduated from therapy (really his therapist just wanted to get rid of him) and he’s on vacation in Italy with an agenda to relax and avoid guns. Since he is unlicensed, it’s tasers only for Bryce.
Suddenly, his sabbatical is interrupted by Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek) who insists Bryce help her rescue her husband Darius Kincaid (Samuel L. Jackson), the Hitman from The Hitman’s Bodyguard. The rescue happens rather quickly, then the trio are recruited by Bobby O’Neill (Frank Grillo), who is tracking Papadopolous to try to stop him in his quest for world destruction. Meanwhile, Sonia and Darius Kincaid want to have a baby and they spend quite a bit of time with this endeavor.
I thought it was interesting that they mentioned the 80s cinema classic Overboard a bunch. You don’t hear too many mentions of Overboard these days, so that was nice. One of the funniest parts of the movie though is when we meet Michael Bryce Senior, who taught Micheal Bryce Junior everything he knows.
Of course, you can’t have a movie like The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard without car chases, explosions, and action, action, action!!
If you enjoyed The Hitman’s Bodyguard you will also enjoy The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard. If you did not like the first one, you probably won’t like this one. Just get ready to sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride!
If the secondary bad guy Magnusson (Tom Hopper) looks familiar, he played Dickon Tarly in Game of Thrones. You’re welcome.
