Educational, but lacking oomph.
In 3D!! And, boy does that get old quickly! This is the first ever animated film shot entirely for 3D, not where 3D is an afterthought like older films. Once you get your eyes to adjust to the 3D-verse, you will find yourself really enjoying some of the space scenes. But this is a story about flies, don’t be fooled.
Not being a huge fan of flies to begin with, I was a hard sell, I must admit. The flies themselves were a bit stale and not colorful enough. Every fly was the same color, racial equality aside, in an animated feature, you can use a little dramatic license to add some zest to your characters – heck, break out the old crayola box and get creative.
This is an attempt to make today’s generation of children understand the space race and to teach them about the historical significance of the Apollo 11 landing. Christopher Lloyd did a great job, acting his fly butt off with a mediocre cast surrounding him, some of the lines came out as obviously one-sided recordings. Trevor Gagnon did a decent job immersing you into the character of Nat, and you do feel for his character. Decent educational movie.
