Base humor at its basest.
Explore the magnificence of mediocrity in the footsteps of failed actor, Dana Marschz (Steve Coogan), turned high school drama teacher, and the South Parkish stereotypes don’t stop there. If slapstick and obscenities are your cup of tea, then you’ll probably go back for some sloppy slappy seconds.
This movie was seriously funny and seriously juvenille. I challenge you not to laugh as Marshz, Marschs, Marshhh, oh whatever the hell his name was, is transformed through Shakespearean tragedy. Writers Pam Brady and Andrew Fleming (also Directed by Fleming), sent a nod to Porkys II, as the whole town erupts into a frenzy over the much anticipated sequel to Hamlet.
The acting was a bit amateurish at times, but it developed into an accurate portrayal of a high school drama department without being too painful to watch. You won’t find any gratuitous nudity in the right places in Hamlet 2, but there will be plenty of skin – oh, there will be skin. Elisabeth Shue shines while playing herself in a limited supporting role as bitter actor turned nurse to avoid all the vile that is Hollywood. Amy Poehler has a forgettable cameo whose clips should have wound up on the bottom of Pam Brady’s shoe like a mangled piece of toilet paper after a solid bowel movement.
There are moments in the film that lack real momentum, and some stale acting by supporting cast members can easily take you out of the film from time to time. All in all though, this was a good comedic offering for the summer.
