I watched “Land of the Lost” as a noob; I never watched the TV series. From my perspective, I thought it was a hilariously funny movie – it had adventure, comedy, a few scary moments, and was just plain fun!
Will Ferrell’s Dr. Rick Marshall kept me in stitches throughout the movie. Holly (Anna Friel) was great as the scientist who never gave up believing in Dr. Marshall’s seemingly ludicrous ideas. Will (Danny McBride) was entertaining as the non-scientist member of the group who at first was totally out of his element but adapted rather quickly to the new environment.
I did some research about the original TV series as well as the remake. Fans of the TV series will recognize Grumpy the T-Rex, Cha-Ka, and the Slesstaks. Compared to the series, which looked perilous, the movie was straight comedy. Instead of a family, Rick, Holly, and Will weren’t related, which I thought made the movie work well.
The sets were amazing as well as the special effects. The dinosaurs looked real and were even kind of scary looking. This was no low-budget remake, that’s for sure. Warning: you will probably walk away from the movie humming or singing “I Hope I Get It” from “A Chorus Line”.
